The architect's house with a passive bioclimatic concept from the 1980s was renovated in 2010 with modern ecological materials (wood, raw earth, wood hemp insulation, natural cork...). Facing south, built on the slope, isolated from the outside, it is very protected to the north and from the east and west wind. Its large bay windows on the front (12m) warm it very easily in mid-season and in winter on sunny days. Electric rolling shutters and good insulating windows protect it at night and in summer a hemp-wood ceiling insulation protects it from excessive heat.
A greenhouse-veranda in front (6m) is used to provide warm air in winter and buffer space in summer. The living room, enclosed between the bedrooms and the service areas, has no direct contact with the cold outside air and opens wide onto the landscape through the bay windows. The passive aspect of this house built on the slope is far from negligible in its bioclimatic behavior.
A system of underfloor heating, supplied with hot water by 24m2 of solar water collectors (to be renovated) and 1000 liters of water reserve meets the needs in half season and part of the winter. The supplement is made for the period from mid-December to the end of February, on days without sunshine, by a 10kw wood pellet stove.
